Join Sisters of our Archdiocese and other young ladies  for a Mission Project !

We will join the St. Vincent de Paul Society in distributing lunches to children in need. There will be songs, facepainting and other fun!

This day is for young ladies ages 14 and up. We will meet at Villa de Matel Convent, 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023. Tel: 713-928-6953

After going out to the Mission site (low income community center on Allen Parkway) we will return to the convent for prayer and the sharing of our experiences. Certificates for 3 hours of community service will be given. There is no charge for this day.

On July 10th, Deacon Joe Doran will be ordained to the sacred order of priesthood at 10am in Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral. The community is invited.

Dear Discerners,

Every year the Office of Vocations hosts the Mini Vocation Sprint. This activity is a great opportunity for young men and women to get to experience the community life of some of the religious houses here in our Archdiocese. On May 22, we will have this Mini Vocation Sprint for all men and women ages 18 and up who are discerning their vocation to priesthood or religious life. We will meet at Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral at 9am for prayer and then we will go in two different groups (men and women) and visit these different religious communities and conclude at 5pm.

It is a great opportunity to meet the religious, speak to them, see where they live and ask questions.

Insight is a summer retreat that gives high school girls the opportunity to spend a whole day with sisters at a local convent  The retreat assists teens in following a call to grow in holiness.

The Insight program will take place on Wednesday, June 9 beginning at 9:00 AM at the Villa de Matel Convent [6510 Lawndale St. Houston, TX 77023]. The day will also include travel to the Missionaries of Charity convent which is located  2.7 miles away.

Insight is for High School Girls Ages 14-18. The topics and activities will include sharing with Religious Sisters, singing and fun, community prayers and Eucharistic Adoration, Holy Mass, and we will visit and pray with the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa’s Sisters). 

Fee: $20 (Financial Assistance Available)

La Oficina de Vocaciones desea hacer una invitación a todos los jóvenes a su retiro anual de discernimiento “Vengan y Vean”. Este retiro se llevará a cabo del 9, 10 y 11 de Julio, 2010 en el Centro de Retiros Holy Name de la Comunidad Pasionista.

Este retiro es para jóvenes solteros mayores de 18 años que están pensando en la vocación sacerdotal y/o religiosa y desean profundizar más y obtener mayor información de las diferentes órdenes religiosas en la arquidiócesis.

El retiro es una experiencia única en la vida. “Vengan y Vean” es dirigido por sacerdotes, religiosas, hermanos y seminaristas. Ahí hay oportunidad de platicar uno a uno. A new Web site, www.ForYourVocation.org, is being launched by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in conjunction with the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. The Web site has two objectives: to help individuals hear and respond to the call by God to the priesthood or consecrated life, and to educate all Catholics on the importance of encouraging others through prayer and activities to promote vocations. The site offers resources for men and women who may have a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life, aids for promoting a vocation-culture within the home, and tools for educators, youth leaders and vocation directors including prayers, videos, best practices, lesson plans and vocation awareness programs. The website will also be available in Spanish.

This project  being funded through the generous donors of the Catholic Communication Campaign. Please note that the Web site will not be active until April 24.

Please pray for our priests, brothers, deacons, and women and men in consecrated life, that they be great witnesses to the whole Church and that their examples strengthen within our youth the desire to seek God’s will for their lives.

La Conferencia de los Obispos Católicos de EE.UU. lanzarán su nueva página de internet www.portuvocacion.org en conjunto con el Día Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones. Los objetivos de la misma son: ayudar a las personas a escuchar y responder el llamado de Dios al sacerdocio y la vida religiosa, y educar a todos los católicos en la importancia de motivar a los demás en la promoción de las vocaciones por medio de la oración y actividades. En la página podrán encontrar muchos recursos tanto para personas en discernimiento y para personas que desean promover las vocaciones en sus parroquias, grupos juveniles, hogares, etc. Parte de los recursos incluye oraciones, videos, mejores prácticas, lecciones, programas y mucho más.

La página web estará abierta el día 24 de abril. La Oficina de Vocaciones de la Arquidiócesis de Galveston-Houston ha distribuido posters a todas las parroquias.  Este projecto a sido llevado a cabo por la generosa contribución de Catholic Communication Campaign.

Explore will be held at St. Mary Seminary on June 8, 9 and 10, 2010. This retreat is for young men in High School who want to know about the priesthood and experience seminary life. The retreat is coordinated by seminarians who are preparing for priesthood in this archdiocese.
