2nd Career Vocations
There are many candidates who have begun a career and then decide to enter the seminary. Depending on the candidate’s educational background, he normally spends 2 years studying philosophy in a program called Pre-Theology before entering into Theology Study. In the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, candidates younger than the age of 35 will study Pre-Theology at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas. Those older than 35 will study at St. Mary’s Seminary. Currently the Archdiocese has an age cap at 50 and many religious orders at 45. However, depending on the candidate’s educational background and ministry experience, the Archdiocese and many religious orders may be open to consider older men on a case by cases basis.
