My name is Justin Cormie, and I grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana before moving to Houston in 2006. After being away from the Church for some time, God called me back home to the Catholic Church in 2007. I instantly fell in love with the Church, and found myself going to Mass every day and frequently visiting Jesus in our Parish’s Adoration chapel. It was not long after that I began asking God how he wanted me to serve Him, what was my Vocation for this life? In asking these questions, I started to discern that the Priesthood was where God was calling me. At first, I was very reluctant, quite frankly I was terrified. And to be honest, as I was continually saying no to this call from God, I was not at peace. This went on for about two years, when I became aware that this was without a doubt what God wanted me to do, and I desperately wanted to be obedient to God’s will for me. What really helped me say yes was a retreat I went on in the summer of 2009, the “Life Awareness” retreat. It really helped me become comfortable with the possibility of being a Seminarian, and shortly after, I began my application process in August of that year. In early 2010, I was accepted as a Seminarian for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, I was at total peace throughout the entire process. For the first time, I knew I was doing God’s will. Please pray for me and my brother seminarians, that we are always obedient to God’s will for us.
Favorite Scripture: John 6: 67-69
Jesus said to the twelve, “Will you also go away? Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life; and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
